Otley RUFC 1883

Front row 3rd from right – the chap leaning on his team mate with his right arm. The gentleman’s name is Squire Mawson. He played for England 1888-89 league year. He was married to Betsy and they lived at 5 Farnley Lane Otley. They had four children; Marian, Harold, Winifred. I’m sorry I don’t know the other sons name. Squire was related to Douglas Mawson who went to the Antarctic with Shackleton – Douglas was a his nephew .. thought you might find this of interest.
